WERC organized a two-day Tamil national conference from the 07th-08th of December 2012, at the Auditorium, with the objective of encouraging and facilitating academic/practical initiatives on gender issues amongst Tamil-speaking communities.

The theme of the conference was “Women as an Image”. Scholars and academics were invited to present papers on this theme, with particular attention placed on the increasing number of cases of gender-based and domestic violence. Twelve papers were presented at this conference.

Dr. Selvy Thiruchandran made the keynote address. The sessions were chaired by Dr. Selvy Thiruchandran, Prof. Yogarasa, Ms. Thevagowry Surendran and Dr. Sanathanan.
