Requests were made to WERC to conduct training programs for staff of various NGOs on topics related to areas which were of current interest. Staff members from the Sri Lanka Red Cross Society, Trincomalee District branch participated in a gender-based violence workshop held at WERC auditorium in January 2005. The program covered Rape and Sexual Harassment, Trafficking and Forced Prostitution, Women and Laws, Violence against Women, Domestic Violence and Gender Inequality as a social construction.

The Red Cross Society, Trincomalee District branch asked WERC to conduct another workshop for their staff members in July. The title of the workshop was 'Sexual and Gender-based Violence'.
